We were watching TV the other night and there were videos and footage from old music shows such as Top of the Pops, and among all the glitter, spandex, make-up and dramatic costumes, was an ordinary looking man with shoulder-length hair, playing the piano and signing a song which was immediately familiar but elusive.
He was Clifford T. Ward, a name I remembered, music I remembered, but I knew nothing about him.There was a potted biography of him; he was born in the Worcestershire in 1944 and never really found the fame or success his music deserved. Apparently he didn’t like touring, didn’t like publicity, and didn’t really do interviews. Tragically, he suffered from multiple sclerosis for nearly twenty years before dying in 2011.
