The first time I went to Iceland, two, or was it three years ago, our tour leader told us before we arrived, ‘We must see Harpa!’. he described it as a concert hall, but nothing prepared me for what it is actually like!
Harpa was opened in 2011, and it is right on the sea in Reykjavik, looking out over Faxaflói Bay across to the mountains. It was designed by a Danish architectural firm and an Icelandic artist, called Olafur Eliasson. It is truly stunning, built with stained glass set into a steel frame.
