Before I was married I moved into a new house, a totally new house, an only just built new house. The garden was a dumping ground for the building site, and over the hot summer that I moved in, I dug the whole thing over, making a huge pile of bricks stones and other rubbish I had excavated.
I had an Amstrad computer and I would come in from digging and sit at the kitchen table and listen to Aztec Camera. I wrote my first ‘proper’ novel, ‘Telling All the Truth’ which will never see the light of day! However, I wrote it, I finished it, and I dug the garden.
Aztec Camera are described as ‘new wave’; I didn’t know that at the time, I just liked the music, the lyric, the voice, the saxophone. They formed in 1980 in east Kilbride, and Roddy frame, the singer and song-writer, was the only person who remained in the band through its existance. Roddy still tours but Aztec camera finished in 1995.
