The walking hat people… again

I haven’t seen them for some time now… I am almost a little anxious in case they aren’t well, or something has happened… maybe they have just moved away, maybe they no longer walk, maybe they have emigrated…

This is a post I wrote last summer:

I can’t remember exactly when it was that we spotted them, but many years ago we noticed a couple, man and woman walking purposefully around the village, in the town or somewhere in between.  I’m not sure of their age, fifties to sixties I would guess, quite short, slim, wearing identical hats (white floppy sun-hats in the summer, waterproof hats in the winter) similar clothes, usually a waterproof anorak, backpacks, sandal in the summer and shoes n the winter. It wasn’t just that they dressed very similarly to each other, it was also that when they walked they kept in time, left right, left right, left right.

Once we had noticed them we saw them regularly, sometimes we even saw them in shops. She had long dark hair and gold-rimmed glasses, he had longish grey-brown hair, beard and moustache and glasses. I think there may have been two ladies, an original one and then another, but maybe I am wrong; if there were two they looked very similar and behaved in the same way, although I got the feeling that the first lady shadowed the man more closely than the second… if there were two of them! When they were in the supermarket they each had a purse and paid for their shopping separately. Quite often when we saw them walking, pace by pace, they would be talking, usually he was speaking. We saw them all over the town, but usually in our village.

The other night, as my daughter was returning from working at a bar in a holiday camp at 2:45 in the morning, she saw them walking through our village with heavy shopping bags.

I am intrigue by them, but I don’t’ suppose I will ever know any more about them!
