The Komo imp

OAKHAM TREASURES 2015 (2)This is the Komo imp; he’s advertising metal polish in a design which dates back at least to the turn of the nineteenth century. I can’t find out anything about the company which made it, all I can find is adverts for the sale of similar signs. On some of those signs the imp is wearing white, sometimes his clothes are more orange than red. I think the paste was sold in small, shallow round tins, with only writing on the top and no imp; it was advertised for use on mirrors as well as metal, and there was also a cream as well as the paste … but where it was made I just cannot discover!
