Slow burn

I missed ‘Bron/Broen/The bridge’ when it was first on TV but now I’ve had the luxury of watching both series – yes, I bought the box set! I finished the last episode of series 2 last night… except I couldn’t bear to watch the last few minutes of it… I won’t say nay more as i don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t yet seen it.

It really matched up to everything that I had read about it; perfect, flawless acting, sympathetic and atmospheric music (haunting title music, I bet you won’t get it out of your head for days!) , great characters who built relationships, messed up relationships, evolved and developed in a realistic and believable way, fabulous filming, so subtle and clever and sometimes downright breath-taking… The plot of course was convoluted, teasing, intriguing and if you thought about it too much not believable at all, but gripping, gripping, gripping.

Although the two series were stand-alone, there obviously were links between the two because they involved the same characters; however an element of what started from the earliest moments of episode one of series one, trickled through the whole of the narrative and only concluded in the very last moments of the end of part two… If you hadn’t seen the first part you were subtly but clearly given enough information and clues to understand what was going on and the anguish of the characters and their relationships, without being given great boring chunks of ‘previously on ‘The Bridge’…’

I believe there is a third series being produced with one of my very favourite actors, Nicolas Bro… really looking forward to that! I shall try to watch it on TV – but I will buy the box set as well!
