June 2nd seems a very popular day to be born! At our English conversation class today it was our volunteer Mike’s birthday, so obviously we had cake. However, I had already noticed that there were other birthdays today; a friend of my daughter’s who I am very fond of is twenty-one, a dear cousin’s daughter also has her birthday today, and another good friend from Oldham is also celebrating! On this date I always think of a very close friend I had when we were at college together; at one point n my life he was one of my closest friends but for some reason which I no longer remember and which probably wasn’t that important, we drifted apart. I know that he probably barely remembers me,but on June 2nd I always think of him.
Other famous birthdays include Charlie Watts, Rolling Stones drummer and my drummer husband’s hero – Charlie is 74, the Marquis de Sade, Thomas Hardy the novelist and Elgar the composer.
