Nano week one

November is the month of the challenge, the writing challenge… a challenge with no prizes apart from the satisfaction of completing it, the challenge to write 50,000 words of a new novel between the 1st and 30th of November.

I have taken part over the last two years, and succeeded… this year, exactly a week ago I started the national Novel Writing Month without a single proper thought in my head. I have made slow progress, and have actually passed 10,000 words, so I’m sort of on target. The trouble is I can’t properly decide or get into what I am doing, and at the moment have three separate things which i am writing (plus the unfinished novel I’ve been working on for the last few months)

  1. The stalker stalked – a completely innocent and unaware man is stalked by a middle-aged member of a writing group… or are there two women in the group stalking him? 1996 words
  2. A woman who has distanced herself from her family for many years returns on the death of her beloved step-father… accidents seem to happen to her, or are they accidents? 3128 words
  3. The further adventures of genealogist Thomas Radwinter, this time investigating his wife’s family history, and also the murder of a school girl seventy years ago… 5464 words

My word speed has improved, and day by day I am writing more than the day before, but will I reach my target? Will I somehow get into my swing and get to the magic 50,000 with just one of these stories?
