Quite a few years ago, maybe as many as ten, for our Christmas present to our family I made a cookery book with all some of our family recipes in, illustrated by my husband… I actually use it quite a lot. The recipes are often written elsewhere on bits of paper, but it’s handy having them all together.
However, I rather think it might be about time for a new one… the trouble will be how to choose which recipes, and how to get a balance right between all the different sorts of things we might want to cook. I think this time it will be my favourite recipes (with some from my husband too!) I don’t want it to be too big in terms of lots of recipes, but maybe just a small selection of my favourites – the ones which have worked particularly well, my Somerset cider cake for example, nettle soup, my new sprouts, chorizo and black pudding recipe… I might have a page of different varieties of coleslaw which has been a particular favourite of mine this year, but I think I will only include recipes I’ve had a real success with… it’s tempting to add in some which sound better than they ended up being, just in case it was me who messed up cooking them, rather than the recipe being rubbish!
I better mention to my husband i want to commission some new illustrations…
