Springtime in Cookham

Cookham was the birthplace and home of the artist Sir Stanley Spencer, and it was for that reason we went there – to visit a museum and gallery containing some of his work, to go on a guided tour round the village, and then to visit the Sandham Memorial Chapel which houses a most spectacular series of his paintings.

Cookham is a most attractive village, even if you have no interest in art it is well worth visiting and spending a few hours jjust wandering, taking in the old buildings, the Thames, and its lovely situation. The area has been inhabited for literally thousands of years, and has been the home of many other famous and well-known people as well as Spencer.

Today the weather was glorious, brilliant skies, warm sun, and a profusion of flowers everywhere.
