Theme tune

I enjoyed reading the Wycliffe novels by W.J. Burley, but when I came to watch the TV series, the actors just didn’t fit the characters in my imagination. I couldn’t somehow get over that, and stopped watching; however, I am now watching them again and I’m distanced enough from the books to be able to enjoy the series, and admire the acting as well as the scenery and story-lines! set in Cornwall these novels, and the TV series, show that it isn’t just a glamorous holiday idyll, it’s a place or rural poverty, of difficulties and problems.

The theme music is so evocative; written by Nigel Hess it perfectly matches the drama. Many, many years ago, when we first moved to the west country as teenagers, I knew Nigel – although I’m sure he has no memory at all of me. he is an amazing composer and musician, and as well as serious music he has written the themes of many well-loved TV series; these feature on a CD:
