Visiting a museum and finding a poem

I love museums and I love poetry, but i have never before found the two coinciding in such a way as I did at Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston, Tasmania, where accompanying some of the exhibits were poems by Tim Thorne. Tim was born in 1944 in Launceston, so it is appropriate that he became the poet in residence at the museum there! Apparently, like many people who write poetry he’s been interested in it from childhood. When he was in his twenties he began to publish his work and his first collection Tense Mood and Voice was published in 1969, and altogether he has published fourteen volumes of verse..

I thought it was such an interesting idea that as well as the exhibits and the notes and information accompanying them, there were poems; it added an extra dimension to being in the museum, and if you are a word person, like me, having those words as you looked at the exhibitions really enhanced the whole experience of being there.
