Things we saw…

Today it’s my family history writing group, and what’s on the menu today?

Family history writing group

  • Brief  updates/ any news/ introductions
  • Last time we were thinking about different ways to tell our stories and we were thinking about letters and how we could use them to share something about past lives…
  • Today we are thinking about events which we witnessed (maybe only on TV or read about in newspapers) or which our ancestors might have seen… we might remember the Queen’s coronation, first men on the moon, the assassination of President Kennedy, the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, the first colour TV, the first mobile phone…
    • What events or occasions (small-scale, national or international) can you remember?
    • Think on a particular ancestor – what major event or occasion might they remember?
  • Tea/coffee/biscuits
  • Sharing our stories
  • Subject for next meeting (this is completely optional!! it is only a suggestion!!) –
    • write about an important occasion you experienced (you were there or you read about it in the papers or your parents told you about it, or you can just think of one and imagine you were there!) It could be something quite ordinary to us – drainpipe trousers and winkle pickers, or mini-skirts, , Beatles or Stones or even Elvis! Or it could be as above, Queen’s coronation, first men on the moon, assassination of Kennedy, funeral of Winston Churchill…
    • …or write about a similar occasion your ancestor might have witnessed or experienced
