Did I mis-remember it?

I’ve been thinking a lot about my memory – or maybe it wasn’t of a pool – more of a pond really, which I used to pass as I sped along a motorway. The pool/pond was in a wooded area although there was a clearing so I could glimpse the dark water as I flashed past. There was something protruding from the water and my memory sees it as the head of a statue, a Roman/Greek type statue. It was a man with curly stone hair, a gaping mouth, blank empty eyes, grey white in colour – or was it? Was it perhaps a concrete post which in the past had held a fence wire or maybe a notice? I can only remember it as the head of a statue.

I seem to remember reading a book which had a pond or pool in a tangled wildwood. Did I really? Or is that another misremembery? I did read a book called Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock which had a mysterious wood or forest, but looking at some information about it there is no mention of anything except lakes, and nothing about a submerged statue… so maybe it was a different book… or maybe it was a film?

I have plenty of plans of books I want to write and none has the possibility of having this image, the pool within a tangle of briars, undergrowth and trees, with the head of a statue protruding from the water… Maybe I should write something different about it. Hmm, I must have a think!
