A pleasant, enjoyable and sociable evening

I haven’t mentioned the pub quiz recently. Be not alarmed, the Dolphin pub is still the highlight of my week (well, sort of, I do have many other highlights!) Pub quizzes in a variety of forms are a familiar thing, some very much more competitive than others. The Dolphin quiz is very much like the Dolph itself, the focus is  on having a pleasant and enjoyable and sociable evening, to make new friends, to be mildly competitive in the most sporting of ways, and maybe win a few shekels through knowledge and pure luck, or a free drink next week. Over the years of taking part in the quiz we have made many friends, some are pub-friends, some we go out and about with away from the Dolph, and we also introduce other friends to quiz night.

Tonight we were a team of three, me, husb and writing friend, the other writer couldn’t join us, and our other chums were in foreign parts. We did pretty well between us in round one; we each had an answer sheet which is laid out like a bingo card, so when the answers are revealed you can win a prize for the first line of correct answers in any direction, and ultimately for the highest score. At half-time, the lovely landlords bring out home-made pizza for us to sustain ourselves and then on to round 3. In the first round we didn’t do badly and won a line, in the second round we were shocking! It really didn’t matter, we’d had a great time, caught up with other friends, eaten pizza, exercised our brains, and missed the torrential rain which cascaded down while we were inside! Looking forward to next week!
