About a month ago, when our book club last met, we set a date for our next get-together, 23rd August – which is today. I try really hard to note down all meetings, get-togethers, holidays, appointments etc, because, as I wrote recently, I am time blind. (https://loiselsden.com/2023/08/01/a-world-of-my-own/ ) So I had noted down book club, bought the book, and looked forward to seeing my reading friends again. A week or so ago, a friend asked if I could spend time with her delightful grandson because she had something she had to do. I was very happy to do so, he’s always great company and has an interesting view of the world. I jotted down the date on my phone – so young lad at lunch time, book-club in the evening.
I’ve mentioned several times that husband is in a shanty band and also in a ukulele group, and as we only have one car we often have to drop each other off, maybe early so the other can get to their place. This morning we set off; husband taken to the seafront where he was shantying at the lifeboat station, then I drove to book club at one of the members’ homes. We vary our meetings, one month in the evening, the next at lunch time, as today. I, however had not remembered that it was a lunchtime meeting when I agreed to spend time with friend’s grandson. I would have to leave book club early. So to book club at twelve o’clock, and there was a lovely lunch, particularly some delicious egg and cress sandwiches. We discussed a book by Matt Osman, ‘The Ghost Theatre’, but, of course, I had to leave early at one o’clock to find my young man and entertain him for an hour.
This would have been fine, except this morning, before I left home, I was contacted about an important family matter, which involved a meeting at the same time I was due to have the friend’s grandson. I asked if it was possible to reschedule the meeting by half an hour, which would give me time to return grandson to granny. It was rearranged and having passed him over, I whizzed off and arrived in plenty of time. Thankfully the meeting, as everything else in my busy day, was a great success with a very happy outcome, and I tootled home to find my shanty-man who’d been given a lift home, was ready to put the kettle on to make a pot of tea! The last five hours had been in a spin! To lifeboat station, to book club, to friend’s grandson, to meeting!! What a busy day!

Dear Lois
I hate to have many appointments. It’s a great day when Dina is telling me in the morning that we have no appointments – oh dear, today we have two. I love an appointmentfree life and most of the time we succeed to have no appointments at all. Well, we look at our communal bookshelf daily and I contact my editor more or less daily but that’s it and it is enough for me. Nevertheless I have my daily routines, f.e. I read every day for two to three hours and write regularly.
Don’t stress yourself

Thank you dear Klausbernd! It was indeed a busy day, but somehow energising too. I did quite a lot of writing last night, and editing of my next book. Tonight I think we may go to the Dolphin for a small drink 🙂
