Yesterday morning was our writing group meeting and in the evening I shared synopses here. For various reasons there were only a select few of us getting together, and we heard four stories, including mine inspired by the word ‘cloak’. I’d finished writing my post, when I realised that one of our members, who hadn’t been with us, was having a book launch at a micro-pub in town, The Black Cat. Luckily I realised in time so we dashed out into the rainy night and rushed into town.
We parked up, puddle-skipped to the pub which is just opposite the theatre, and I could see the author, sitting in the window. We pushed into the small pub and not only was my friend sitting there with his pile of books, but another very dear friend, the amazing singer, Marianne McAleer. We exchanged warm hugs, beer was bought and we sat down to chat to the writer who had brought us here, and to buy his book.
I’m not sure when I first met Brian, lost in the mists of the history of Writers in Stone, our writing group. Here’s a little bio I’ve snatched from his Amazon page:
Brian Price is a chemist and biologist who retired from the Environment Agency in 2016. He is the author of ‘Crime Writing: How to write the science’, and runs a website offering tips on science for crime writers (www.crimewriterscience.co.uk). He taught science and technology courses for the Open University for 26 years.
Brian’s first crime novel, ‘Fatal Trade’, was published, in 2021, plus a free novella, ‘Fatal Beginnings’. Not to rest on his writing laurels, ‘Fatal Hate’, appeared the following year, and the third in the series, ‘Fatal Dose’, arrived on the bookshelves in January 2023. Last night was the launch of ‘Fatal Blow’.
I mentioned yesterday that our writing group is very productive and you can find all Brian’s books, and those published by others of us, on Amazon as paperbacks and e-books:
And me too!
Here is a little treat, a lovely song from Marianne:
