A foolish comment

We wandered down to the Dolphin last night and got into conversation with various friends and one of the topics of conversation was about a comment someone had made on social media about the price of beer going up. The foolish comment was that the landlord had  done it, but of course it was nothing to do with him, it was the management company that run it. Most people know that and there was a speedy response from other regulars, including me. This is what I wrote:

I go to the Dolphin and have a drink or two there because I think it is worth it. It’s a welcoming, well-kept, community pub, and I’ve met and made so many friends there over the last goodness know how many years, that it’s worth the price of a few (or more) pints of beer or glasses of wine. I don’t have to pay an entrance fee, or a membership fee, I can spend a whole evening there, warm and comfortable even if I only buy one pint. It’s like being comfortably at home but I meet old friends and make new friends. I don’t have to wash the glasses I use, or pay for the electricity to keep me warm or listen to the juke box or have someone wash up.
So if the prices go up on beer or spirits or wine – not because the landlords want it but because the government put the taxes up or the management company decree it, well, it’s worth it.

Christmas Eve tomorrow, so I guess we’ll saunter down again, even if it’s sheeting with rain, as forecast! – because it’s worth it!
