I confess, I have hit a lull, a slough, a doldrum (if you can have a singular) My writing seems to have ground to a snail’s pace, so once again I’m resorting – as I have in previous situations, to find a list of random words and try to produce something which includes one or several of them. I did this recently with my story of Ada which I shared here, however although I may report on my progress, I won’t be sharing any new stories here as I want to enter some writing competitions. Most such things include a rule that work submitted should not have been previously published and humble though my blog is, it counts, in the eyes of the comps, as publishing.
There’s a site which will randomly generate words, and I asked for thirty items. I know if I want a challenge I shouldn’t quibble over what it is, but my twenty were not exactly inspiring or challenging:
- tree, grubby, secret, mint, chalk, mass, joke, battle, wistful, coal
- unarmed, proud, permit, quince, blot, house, responsible, pick, joyous, earthy
- buzz, back, religion, outrageous, sock, waggish, trucks, detailed, sincere, stick
My other method of finding suggestions for writing is the word puzzle, Octordle. I’ve just completed one (yes i should be writing not puzzling, but that is part of the problem!) – and these are the answers – smite, tulip, stump, madly, covet, realm, twixt and plait. Would they be more interesting to include in a story, not necessarily in that order, but are they more inspiring? I think so! I will let you know

Hang in there! Topics: dreams, a favorite early teacher, anything serendipitous?
