I’ve been catching up on some of the notes I’ve jotted – I don’t have a system, I note things on my phone as I observe or think of them, and afterwards wonder if any of the separate jottings have anything to do with each other and what on earth some of them might mean.
I wrote something which sounds like the beginning of a story, ‘When did everything change?’ It could be sci-fi or speculative fiction, or it could be about relationships – happy or sad. Maybe one of the characters in either of these ideas has the surname Glaven; I’ve never heard of it as a surname, but it is the name of a river in Norfolk. Another separate jotting but which could also tie in with Norfolk of a person called Mrs/Ms/Mr Glaven, is ‘Veronica in the Fens – her daughter.‘ Is Veronica the daughter or is she the mother? The Fens aren’t usually thought of as spreading into Norfolk, except into the very west of the county. In the same list as the Veronica mention, I’ve also written Magenta (with a capital) was a playing with the idea of it as an unusual name for a character? Maybe the sister of Glaven – or maybe that was her surname, Magenta Glaven.
Onto another list of jottings (and now I’m keeping Veronica, Glaven and Magenta in mind) I have Lucas looking through a window, I have a glass lift, an empty motorised wheelchair charging around, and a mystifying question, ‘Any missing Jeffs – ancient lowlands?‘ Finally, on that page I have what might be a paragraph, or maybe the beginning of something:
The house looked ordinary – as if it had belonged to some elderly people who’d had to leave it and it was just abandoned. But was it a house waiting for happy times, or a house with dreadful memories?’
I’m never going to be short of things to write about am I? Now, can I weave any of this into my story for the next writing group meeting, where the topic is ‘Trials’… or was it ‘Trails’?

Dear Lois
we live at the mouth of the river Glaven in Cley next the Sea/Blakeney Point. We suppose besides this is a huge nature reserve here and an AONB it’s a young landscape with a coastline that is constantly changing.
May your ideas end up in a well read book. We keep our fingers crossed
The Fab Four of Cley

Oh gosh, what a coincidence!! I have been to Cley several times – I remember going to a pub with a marvellous lunch menu and having a great meal with cousins there!! I have also been to Blakeney with the same cousins, but they have now moved to the south coast (very dull compared to the east!) Thanks as ever for your good wishes!
