Tuesday night in the Dolphin

It’s Tuesday, therefore it is quiz-night at the Dolphin, so we toddled down just after seven o’clock to meet our friends and quiz-mates (without the bargees who were elsewhere) and sat between Tim and a slimmer version of his gang, and the Am-Drams, the Bleadon Amateur Dramaticals. By the door was our across-the-road neighbour and friend, and in the rest of the pub were various other teams including Nigel and Mark and their gang, Wally and his friends, and others. This may seem like a lot of folk, but unfortunately, compared to former years when it was standing room only, it was very sparse.

No-one has any idea why there are fewer people here on quiz night, there are fewer people in the pub in general, but it used to be very different. Maybe it is the price of drinks,  maybe it is a left-over from lockdown, maybe people are just not interested in pubs and prefer to drink at home, whatever the reason, there are far fewer teams than there used to be.

We had, as usual, a fun evening, and even managed to win something, but fun though it is, it’s just a shame that there aren’t more people enjoying themselves on Tuesday night in the Dolphin!
