Drifting down the pub

So, to the pub! We had intended to go to the Dolphin on Thursday night, once the polls had closed to celebrate – in anticipation of a positive result, not just for our local candidate, but for the party we support. However, the coverage of the election was so gripping that we daren’t leave home. In fact I stayed in front of the TV until 4 a.m. on Friday, so gripped was I. I wish now I had continued to watch as some of the most exciting and satisfying results came in after that. In five years time, 2029, I will remember this sensational night and not retire until the very last. So for that very reason, we didn’t go to the pub as anticipated.

Friday night – we would head to the Dolphin to have a belated celebration. However, my plan hadn’t factored in husband’s schedule – he had a gig and did not return until it was too late. He is a member of the Weston Ukulele Players (the WUPS) and also the Beach’d Buoys Shanty Band – not sure which he was with Friday, but as they both perform for free taking all fees and donations and give to a children’s hospice (raised nearly £10,000 last year) I’m very proud and never mind.

So tonight – apart from the Euro football thingy, there was nothing to stop us drifting down the pub at the usual time of just after ten. There were a lot of people in the public bar, left over from watching the football earlier, and we  sat down near them to share the atmosphere.  A couple of pints, and then we drifted home again, and treated ourselves to a wee dram (Highland Park)

Now I’ll probably spend a couple of hours writing, himself will go to bed and sit up reading Keir Starmer’s autobiography (our new Prime Minister)
