I usually try and write something here everyday, but yesterday I missed – and there was a reason, as you might have guessed. We now have an extra body at home, and all their mountains of stuff (good grief, what mountains indeed!) living with us. We are expert collectors of our own stuff – kitchen stuff, fridge/freezer/cupboard stuff, shelf and “pantry”, book/writing/drawing/painting/hobby stuff, clothes (particularly husband’s clothes and shoes) bedding and towels, – and so on and so on and so on. These items have been accumulated over the last thirty plus years of being together, plus the previous thirty plus years of us in our other lives. These items include our children’s things which they probably don’t want but I hang on to just in case they might (daughter would put them in the bin or charity shop bags without a second glance!!)
So, our house is bursting at the seams and I have been trying to winnow – actually I have been attempting this futile task (the aspiration is futile, the task is extremely utile) for many months, I even wrote about it https://loiselsden.com/2019/05/06/re-use-recycle-chuck-out/ . Back to the subject in hand, we have an extra member of the household, and he like his parents, has accumulated a horrific amount of stuff in the single room he had in a flat-share, plus enough grocery items to open his own shop, plus more clothes than any charity would accept, and items of furniture such as cupboards, bookcases, shelving, desk and chairs.
All of these possessions had to be moved from his flat in Bristol over several journeys in a hire van and our car, back home, which was initially on one day for the bulk of the stuff, but has continued in dribs and drabs over the following few days. He also had to spend a day flat-cleaning, and I have spent several days cleaning and washing items which it hadn’t been possible to do during the turmoil of relocation.
The upshot of this rambling excuse is, that I have been away from my computer and even if I’d been in attendance, the output might have been even more random than usual!!
My featured image is obviously not our home, but a property which would be big enough (possibly) to accommodate all our possession)
