It’s somewhat late, but I need to report on the pub quiz. It usually takes place on a Tuesday evening in the Dolphin, but Tuesday night in the Dolphin was given over to Christmas Eve excitement and meeting up with people to wish each other all the best for the big day. Our gallant quiz master offered to hold a quiz on Boxing Day, which we thought was an excellent idea.
We had a lovely Christmas Day, the four of us, daughter, sun, husband and me, but daughter was at work on Boxing Day (she’d managed to finish work at 3.p.m. so we enjoyed Christmas dinner together in the afternoon) and son was delayed by a phone call so only the two of us toddled along to the pub. The quiz master had had to write his own quiz which was gallant of him, and he had also supplied a picture round of twenty photos of well known people in unusual situations or when they were much younger and with different hairstyles. The quiz answers are on a five x five answer sheet, the squares numbered randomly for the answers. The questions are read out in order, but of course the answers could be anywhere – and each person’s answer sheet is different. The answers are then read out in random order and the first person to get a straight line in any direction, or four corners, wins a prize. There is also a prize for the person/team which gets the highest score. It’s great fun!
Most of our usual team were with us, which was lovely, and by chance the team next to us was our neighbours and their friends and relatives. Well, of course we were all in a very festive mood, so we were somewhat raucous and lively – as were all the other teams. I have no idea whether any of us won, but who cares! It really is the taking part!
Next Tuesday we will be in the pub, but no quiz as it will be New Year’s Eve! The next pub quiz will be the week after that, 7th January, 2025!!!
