70

Today was writing group and we were slightly depleted in numbers but no matter, we all had a jolly time and as it had been my birthday recently I brought some cakes to celebrate. It happened that another writer had a birthday the day after mine, so it was a celebration for her too. Each time we meet we choose a writing topic for the next meeting, and last time we chose ’70’ for some reason – and that happened to be the age of our friend on Monday! I think we all found it quite a tricky topic to be original, but somehow we managed it.

I wrote about a 70th birthday celebration which ended up somewhat differently that the guests had expected, but to be honest it was a bit feeble. The birthday girl wrote about her birthday, of course, Brian wrote about the famous Isle of Wight festival of 1970 which he had attended, as had a close friend of ours, and R also chose a birthday theme which had us all laughing. Fenja as usual had a twist in her tale, but I think we all agreed that Hamish gave us something which gave us the creeps. He wrote a sinister tale which I am sure will haunt us for a while – he’s a great writer and he was on top form with this one.

All our stories will be contained in our next anthology which will be published in the spring, meanwhile you can catch up with our previous collections:
