A great night as usual!

Quiz night at the Dolphin tonight, and we were joined by our team-mates, P, R, Fe and Fi. As usual we caught up with each others’ news and exchanged stories and amusing incidents and shared what we were all reading and then with a cry from the quiz master, Scott (inspiration for my Mike Scott stories) we started.

There are two rounds of twenty-five questions. We each have an answer sheet which is divided into 5×5 boxes, each for an answer but numbered randomly. Each person’s sheet is unique in the layout, so my answer #1 might be in the top left corner, R’s might be in the centre and Fi’s might be in the middle along the bottom. When the answers are read out, correct is circled, incorrect crossed – the first person to get a straight line of correct answers, horizontal, diagonal, vertical, or four corners, shouts ‘Dolphin’ and they will win a prize for their line. The quiz continues and when the answers are finally given, they are given sequentially. The person or team with the highest correct score also wins a prize.

It is great fun – yes there is competitiveness between teams and individuals, but the idea is to enjoy ourselves. Between the two rounds there’s an interval to buy more drinks, and our wonderful landlords provide pizza, delicious homemade pizza! Today for various reasons that was not possible, but guess what? They made fabulous curry and wonderful chilli! Aren’t we lucky to have such a great pub on our doorstep!

We won nothing, but we had a great night as usual! Catching up with friends, making new friends, stretching our brains, having a couple of beers, and bonus home-made refreshments tonight!
