Secrets revealed, things understood

I started writing here in 2012, without much clue as to what I was doing, and absolutely no clue how this blog would develop. I had self-published my first novel, ‘Farholm’ and thought this might be a good way of promoting and publicising it, but it was obvious I couldn’t write just about one book. I began to write about other things, and over the years my blog has become an important part of my writing life – for its own sake as well as my novels!

I’ve written a heck of a lot here, I used to write several times a day, but usually more briefly, now I just write once – but over twelve years of writing, that must be (whip out the calculator) over four and a half thousand posts! So if I repeat myself, it’s not surprising that what I think is a new inspiration, might be something I’ve wittered on about before, and with my head so full of stories written and unwritten, ideas and nonsense, it might also not be surprising if I reprise what I wrote only a short time ago… so, did I (I wonder) or did I not, jot down something overheard as I was walking home a couple of weeks ago?

“She was working in the south of France, so she was down there and he wouldn’t leave her, so…”

Then more enigmatically:

“Doors can never be closed, lights can never be switched off.”

Was this referring to some sort of institution where no-one had privacy – or  the darkness of night?  Was it something profound, or metaphorical about secrets revealed, things understood? It would be a great sub-title to something – or a strapline to a book or movie! Maybe I should suggest it at the next writing group as a topic for the following meeting – I will ask my friends!

Here is a link to ‘Farholm’, in case you haven’t read it!

Actually, ‘secrets revealed, things understood’  would be a great strapline for Farholm!

Thank you so much, the boggart was enchanted by your greeting and sends one back written on what looks very much like a shopping list which I wrote and went missing. We had a marvellous sunny day today, despite it being January, and I managed to get some washing on the line! Goodnight from Uphill x
