A most sociable day,

I’ve had a most sociable day, involving modest eating and drinking in good company in different local establishments. My daughter and I enjoyed breakfast in Brunello Lounge in Weston. The Lounge chain has eating and drinking places across the country and ours in Weston, almost opposite the Grand Pier is a favourite place for us and many others. I returned home, did a few chores including putting a load of washing on the line, and then set off to meet my writing chums, Hamish MacNeil and Fenja Hill, for a spot of lunch.

When we were planning where to go I suggested the Post Office in our neighbouring village of Bleadon. Breakfast? At the Post Office??  Mais oui, mes braves! Yes, indeed – the post office is in a small shop – I guess you’d call it a general stores cum deli/butcher and attached to it is a café which serves drinks, cakes, light refreshments, lunches – a variety of items to tempt whatever the time of day. We sat round a low table in comfy chairs, and talked about writing, talked about Watchet Literary Festival which we’re attending in a couple of weeks time, talked about the writing group, about our writing, what we’re reading, films – and generally had a most agreeable time in pleasant surroundings with good coffee and locally made cakes.

I returned home and took the washing from the line. Unfortunately it was as wet as when I’d put it out. Oh well, the rest of the day had been fine!
