What did us in

It was our writing group get together today. We meet once a month and bring our writing from a topic or idea set at the previous meeting. Last month a random sentence from a book was our inspiration I’m not about to speculate on what did us in’. As you might imagine this led to an interesting variety of tales – there’s never any way of anticipating the creativity and ingenuity of our little group, ‘Writers in Stone’!

For my story I went back to my years in Manchester, and I imagined a group of twenty-somethings, not long out of university but who had formed their friendships there, who were going out on the town. I delved into real events – going for meals, clubs, late night buses, funny things which had happened to us, and used them as a platform for an imagined evening out set in real places. The story started with a birthday – the gang were going for a meal and then to a club, sounds simple, but they were ambushed by events.

The first venue was the Danish Food Centre, and you can read about it in my friend Andrew’s blog:

In my imagined adventure for the writing group, Andrew himself was with me and the others who, after a wonderful  Danish buffet decided to go to a club. I’m not sure if it’s still there but it was indeed another real place. Being fiction something happened which involved the group of friends eating another meal. Being young and hungry students they managed it, but then through various complications they ended up at a well-known curry house, another real establishment. I refer you again to Andrew’s blog:

The characters in my story ended up eating three meals in one evening, which is what did them in!

My story was completely made up, but the locations are real!
