Writerly things

We had a very productive afternoon. We met in a coffee place, Costa’s to be precise, to sit and write. Obviously we could have done this at home and made our own coffee, or we could have done it together in one of our own places, but we decided to meet for coffee and write.

I arrived first and of course had a panic that I was in the wrong place – there are several Costa coffee shops in our town and I’m really good at mishearing a plan, mis-remembering it, mistaking the time or location, or in extreme cases – forgetting it completely. I messaged to check, and phew, yes I was fine so sat back to drink my coffee and think about what I was going to write. Fenja arrived next as I sat sipping my coffee – she noticed a table tucked in a nook beside the door and by a window so I transferred as Mac appeared.

We got out laptops and notebooks, armed ourselves with more coffee and set to work. Fenja was pounding away, inspired by a short story she had written which was developing into something else – a novel,, a collection, who knows but it will be very original I know that! Mac was scribbling away, pausing to think, correct, rewrite then scribble some more and I was continuing to edit my next and possibly final Radwinter novel, the eighth which may be called ‘Spindrift’, or may not! It was interesting working like this – out of my usual writing environment made me able to look more objectively at what I was editing which obviously was really helpful.

I guess we were there a couple of hours and had more coffee, and did break to comment on what we were doing and chat briefly about other writerly things. However, I think we agree that it was a very profitable and satisfying afternoon and we will do it again – maybe in the same place, or maybe somewhere different! My featured image is of the cake we didn’t have – maybe next time!
