An intriguing suggestion

My writing friend Brian Price, author of the popular and successful Mel Cotton series, has just published a collection of short stories which I heartily recommend. Brian had a meet, greet and buy the latest – a very entertaining anthology – in his local, The Black Cat, in Weston-super-Mare. I went along to support him, and obviously buy the book, but also to sample the pub’s current beer.

It was a very successful evening, and several pints were consumed. I was chatting with Brian and we nattered on about various things and I mentioned my current read, a crime novel set in 1952, during the great smog. I mentioned it because Brian was born at that time. I do remember smogs and fogs, the sort which are unseen nowadays because not many of us have coal fires, and several clean air acts have been passed.

In the writing group, Bran has mentioned the great smog, and I am old enough to remember similar events – in particular when I was a student in Manchester. I have only just started the novel, and already there is an intriguing suggestion of ill-doing. If you’re interested in ‘Breathe’ by Dominick Donald, here are the details
