Home thoughts

I have bits and pieces on my mind today, no, not the corny song by the Dave Clarke Five if you’re old enough to remember it or them – but just random thoughts. The one dominating at the moment which I really should screw up and chuck in the bin, was a sarky comment on social media. I don’t mind people disagreeing with me – although I don’t think I’m controversial and certainly not rude, but this was a comment which has just niggled. Someone had posted a photo from WW2 and I made a comment about my Dad. Maybe the person didn’t understand, maybe I was slightly off the point, but it was a perfectly harmless, non-controversial sentence. Bam! Straight back came a response from a third party who said “…and your point is?” to which I replied “No point, just mentioned my dad’s experience.” Somebody then commented, in a jolly fashion to what I’d said so to me it was obvious I’d not somehow been rude or controversial.

That should, of course have been the end of it, no harm done, a tiny sarky comment about nothing very much – but for some reason it is still on my mind! I think if it had been a criticism of something more controversial, or an argument against my point of view, I would have been fine – but the stupidity of her comment has continued to rankle. Let it go, Lois, let it go!!!!

My featured image is of my dad when he was serving abroad somewhere during WW2 – Italy, Greece or more likely North Africa. Maybe this picture could be titled “Home thoughts, from abroad”, from Rupert Brooke’s poem. As you can see, his hair is not the regulation short back and sides – and that was part of the flutter on social media today!

As a matter of fact I remember his face, from the same or another photo, and I love it, and like the fact that the photo was taken when he was not posing for it. If people can’t see the point of sharing it with them, it’s their loss… in the meantime, thank you for publishing it again 😉
