It was quiz night last night, and sadly these days the number of quizzers is somewhat diminished. Tim and his team are as ever still to our left, the Am-Drams (Bleadon village amateur dramatic group) to our right, Mark and his team were down the other end, and there were a couple of other teams as well, plus a few visitors, but it wasn’t as it used to be when it was standing room only! Nevertheless we had great fun as ever, including a free drink because we won last week’s beer round. At the end of the quiz there is a completely random question, the answer being often just guess work as it might be the distance of something, or the weight of something, or the date something happened. The winning team, get a free round of drinks. We had great fun, I did abysmally, but we had a very nice evening together and catching up with the other groups.
I don’t know if you’ve come across this, but there’s an apparently simple on-line quiz game. You play one-on-one, and there are three rounds, each with three questions – four possible multiple choice answers, points are awarded and the winner chooses the next topic for the next round. The topics vary – history, politics, beauty and fashion, music, sport, geography, science, business – and many more. You only have a short amount of time to read the question, look at the choice of answers and choose one – so not much chance of having a ponder! It’s all very well trying to choose a topic you’re comfortable with (although the four choices may all be subjects you’re a bit hazy on) but wishing the topic some of the questions do seem a little off-target! I play with six other people, including my writing chums, my pub quizzing chums, husband and a friend I’ve known for ages. There are of course no doubt thousands of other players you could challenge and play with, and you could spend all day playing – but I just stick with people I really know.
Oh… I see I have just been challenged by one of my writing chums… I better see what the first question is… wish me luck!
My featured image is of me in Monte Carlo – yes, I was once there and actually made a few francs! I have to confess, it wasn’t by gambling, I found twenty francs on the pavement outside a casino!
