Another great story night at The Black Cat

I tootled into town this evening to another evening of stories and story telling at the excellent Black Cat, an indi pub which has a wonderful selection of beer. Many if not most of the participants are members of the Writers in Stone group, but other people join us to share their stories, and the pub was pleasantly full.

Story-tellers are chosen at ransom – names pulled out of not a hat but a pocket, and I was first. I’d struggled to choose what to read, I have well over a hundred stories, but I wanted something fairly short, not too niche, which worked as a spoken tale not just as something read. In the end I chose something I had written for the writing group, re-telling a well-known fairy tale. I guess there were about a dozen story-tellers, not all from our writing group, and it was a fascinating selection in a variety of genres. Some were exciting, some amusing, some sad, some thought-provoking, some just excellent writing narrating a tale.

Many there tonight know each other, so in a way it was a relaxed and confident group , but some only knew a few friends, or maybe knew no-one at all which made their stories very interesting . The next story night will be in August – looking forward to it already!
