I’m renowned for being absentminded and one of the ways this is frequently apparent is when I leave things behind in places I visit – hats, scarves, jackets, bags, shopping – occasionally and more worryingly, phone or wallet. The worst is when I don’t realise I’ve left the item somewhere – obviously if I get home from going shopping and there are no bags in the car then it’s pretty apparent pretty quickly that a disaster has happened. Actually, forgetting a bag of shopping isn’t as bad as leaving my wallet on the bar in the pub (luckily they know me in the Dolphin) or worse misplacing my wallet and not having a clue where on earth it might be. I do have a tracker in it, so in the house I can hear it buzzing away, and see its location on my phone – ditto if it’s in the car parked on the drive. Writing this reminds me that I need to replace the battery in the tracker, because its range has decreased.
As soon as you read the next bit in this story you will guess what happened. Brian, a writer in our group, sent a WhatsApp to us all that the landlord of the Black Cat, the pub where we have a story night once a month, had found a jacket.
Brian: Did anyone leave a jacket in the Cat on story night?
Me: I don’t think so – what is it like?
B: Greyish – I’ll try and post a photo.
Me: Thanks – I don’t think it’s mine but I am an expert in forgetting things!
Mac: Has it got a raven and a typewriter badge?
B: No – a Tasmanian Devil on the sleeve.
Me: I think it might be mine (tears of laughter emoji) Do you have it, Brian, or is it at the Black Cat?
Me: I can’t find mine – which does have a Tasmanian Devil on it!
B: An excuse for a pint? Otherwise I will bring it to the summer social get-together.
B: It’s still inn the pub.
Me: We will pop in to get it – thanks for letting me know!
Jacket collected, now hanging up under the stairs. My problem was when Brian mentioned it, I have peculiar colour blindness where brown and grey sometimes appear the same to me. I thought my jacket was brown – however everyone tells me it’s grey. I had the same problem with a car we had, obviously brown to me, patently grey to everyone else!

I got my lovely jacket when we were in Tasmania and visited the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary in the Cradle Mountains:
PS Thank you Brian!
