Buddies

I had a wonderful telephone conversation with one of my oldest buddies. She now lives near Seattle so we don’t get to meet up very often, but that matters not – as soon as we start chatting the miles, and the years fall away. Our two families moved to the west country at the same time, so we were all new girls at the local school – she was in my sister’s class, I was two years older. Because me and my sister were so close, she and I became buddies too.

I moved north and some years later she did too. We had remained in contact in the intervening years, meeting up as often as we could. Both our lives changed in many ways, and she moved even further away, to the USA, where she lives to this day! She often returns to Blighty, and i was fortunate enough to be able to go to visit her on the other side of the pond. What a wonderful, unforgettable holiday. If you read my recent post about how I shook hands with a man who not only had shaken hands with T. S. Elliot, but was a friend of his – she was the person who’d taken me to the BBQ where we met! It was also on that holiday when we saw Bob Dylan live, with the incomparable Tracey Chapman in support.

We’ve continued our friendship for more years than I dare mention, an it was with some delight that I answered her call today and we face-timed for an hour, catching up on our news, and reminiscing about old times.
