A couple of weeks ago I shared an adventure I’d had with the young explorer. We haven’t had any more explorations, but he visited today for a couple of hours, and was fascinated by Bari’s drums. So obviously, Bari gave a quick demo, and then with a little guidance the young explorer had a little session himself. Much as I love music, I have no talent in any way at all, but to my untutored ear, I thought the YE was not bad at all for a lad who’d never had a go before. He also liked the newly acquired djembe and had a try on that – he explained that he has the opportunity to try different musical instruments at school, and had tried a djembe before. Even so, I was pretty impressed.
We had some garden rubbish and other stuff to take to the dump and the YE was very keen to lend a hand and help get sheets of plastic, old wooden frames, garden rubbish and an old bucket with a hole in it ( I should have asked him if he knew the song about Eliza and the hole in the bucket) into the car. Everything loaded, we put his child seat in our car for him and all climbed aboard. He had to stay in the car at the dump but he was interested in seeing others unloading their vehicles and the sorts of items they were disposing of into the giant containers.
As we headed for home he spotted the giant Smyths Toys Superstore and it seemed alike a plan to pop in and have a good look round, especially as Bari is essentially a child himself (despite being 6’6½” tall and retired) It’s an incredible place, floor to distant ceiling toys of every imaginable description. I was quite astounded, and the YE had to explain what many of them were and show me how to get the toy dinosaurs/monsters to roar, flash their eyes and flap their wings.
It was time to head home, and no sooner had we got out of the car than Granny arrived. We had a quick catch up about her French lesson and our adventures, and then they piled into her car to set off home for dinner. They are going to have a busy day tomorrow – it’s Comicon in town (whatever that is!!)
