This remarkable tree is in the Museum of Somerset in Taunton.  it is the Tree of Somerset, and it’s carved from oak fwhich was grown on the nearby  Quantock Hills;  it shows scenes and events from the history of  Somerset’s history, but it reminded me of Yggdrasil, the huge mythical tree which connects the nine worlds in Norse cosmology.
