Hero or villain?

I taught this boy many years ago, he must be in his twenties now. He was an interesting lad, but with a solitary side; he never seemed to want friends and yet was lonely. I hope his life has worked out well for him.

Some of my students became addicts or criminals and are incarcerated. Far too many girls have many children and the welfare and poverty cycle perpetuates itself. In Miami not rare to be victim of drive by shooting. But Maria became a teacher for mentally disabled children. William is a policeman and Richard went to Harvard.

Isn’t it wonderful when things work out so beautifully? Like you, I have students whose lives went wrong… but I am just grateful that when I come cross people I used to teach they all seem pleased to see me!
