I was so lucky to have a great time at school, particularly my junior school, Milton Road in Cambridge, but also my secondary school, the Cambridgeshire County High School for Girls… or the County as we used to call it!
Last year was an important anniversary for people who were in my year, and we had a reunion and I have just come across some of the photos I took at the time. The school is no longer a secondary school but is a sixth form college – for students aged 16-18 taking A-levels and other advanced level subjects ready for trying to get into Uni. It may have changed but it was still a lovely looking building, and brought back many happy memories. The building is descried as ‘an excellent example of progressive school architecture of the thirties, brick, freely grouped and generously spaced.’ Very true!

I love that cake.

It actually tasted good too! First time I’ve ever eaten school knickers!

Hi Lois, very interested to see ‘the County’, as my mother-in-law aged 93 was there in 1940s. It appears to have been a trend to give your friends a thumb-print size photo of yourself on leaving. I’ve just come across photos of a number of girls, some dated 1946-1948 and some with just a first name on back. Would love to return them to any of the girls’ descendants, who may not have ever seen the originals. Would you be interested at all?
