Catching Fire

I have just finished reading ‘The Hunger Games’ and I was gripped all the way through; it is a fantasy, but within its own world I found it completely believable and consistent… and I really had no idea how it would end. I did realise that the heroine Katniss wouldn’t die as she was the narrator, and it is part one of a trilogy… but I didn’t know whether she would win the games either! It is written for young adults, but as an old adult I was completely engaged with it.

A friend had accidentally revealed a tragedy in the story, so I was prepared for it; what I was not prepared for was how moved I would be and this was down to the writing of Suzanne Collins the author. The end is terrific too, just when you think it’s all over… it isn’t! And then it is… but oh no, another trick up the writer’s sleeve! I really recommend the book, even if you don’t like science fiction/fantasy and are not into children’s books, it is a great read and has some very intriguing ideas, which take a lot of mulling over.

I am looking forward to reading the next part in the trilogy, ‘Catching Fire’ which apparently is just as good, and then there is a third book, ‘Mockingjay’ which is reckoned to be even better!
