‘Northern Exposure’ was a wonderful TV series which ran from 1990-1995; it was set in Alaska in the fictional town of Cicely and the viewers were introduced to it and its strange residents through the arrival of a new York doctor. The first few episodes were a culture shock for the audience as well as the doctor, Joel Fleischman, because the townsfolk really were quite weird in a gentle eccentric way.
I didn’t know any of the actors in the cast, but they included Rob Morrow, Barry Corbin, Janine Turner, John Cullum, Darren E. Burrows, John Corbett, Cynthia Geary, Elaine Miles and Peg Phillips. They played the parts of characters, including a former astronaut, an ex-convict dj, a bush pilot and a half- native American who wants to be a film director.
The story lines were bizarre and hilarious in turns, sometimes I didn’t actually understand what was going on, but it was a gentle and lovable series, and I’m going to enjoy watching it again – I hope! Wouldn’t it be a disappointment if I found I really disliked it and found it irritating? That does sometimes happen when I have re-read former favourite books, or re-watched old movies!

I was a real fan. A whole different universe. Refreshing to see some basic wholesomeness in people. Hey, wait a minute. It is refreshing to see anything on TV based on simple wholesomeness.
