Is anyone else having difficulty with WordPress over the last few days? I know they have a new layout and shortcuts and links and other whizzy things, but the pages are taking ages to load, and sometimes aren’t loading at all. I can’t find a way to edit photos like I could before an everything just seems more awkward and time-consuming… or is it just me?

One problem is that it does not allow me to put lower case letters for first letter of word in title. Does not allow an extra space if wanted. I usually post as jpeg and all editing done to jpeg. Reedit jpeg to replace. I delete all comments after read but if you hit spam by accident it will spam everyone from wordpress from entering anymore.

Heck! Well I haven’t encountered that… I hope they get it sorted!

Hello Lois. I agree that, although there have been some good new introductions (like the picture mosaic) whatever has been done has made things more difficult not better. It’s similar with Google, Ebay, Yahoo – they never learn to follow the mantra: ‘If in ain’t broke don’t fix it’. It was easy to put in media, including pictures and edit them, before. Now it’s more limiting and more confusing. With Ebay it means that I rarely use it now as a seller and I’ve abandoned Yahoo completely.
Reading between the lines it seems to me it’s about money; I have the impression WordPress are trying to force us into getting upgrades which cost money. Why else are we bombarded with hints, prompts, challenges, exhortations to ‘postaday’, etc? I have enough problems finding the time to write about what I want to write about.
I’m also irritated by the frequent posts about grammar – as a former teacher of English mine’s pretty good I think but I don’t pick up on every little grammar error in posts I read or follow – I’m interested in what they want to say not whether they know what a past participle is, and I often choose to break the rules for creative reasons.
I agree with Carl too about the creativity-repressing ‘rules’ which WordPress choose to impose upon us. I hadn’t notice the forced initial letter capitalisation but the inability to put in space is a real pain, especially when considering poetry (or in my case haiku).
I’ve been thinking about doing a post about it.
I haven’t had any problems with speed of uploading but I don’t post more than two or three times a week.

You’re so right! Sometimes (mostly) simple is good, and like you I suspect there is a financial aspect to it all – I’m so fed up with all the ads which keep popping up, I have a blocker but it still leaves a blank space where the ad used to be.

It was a nightmare uploading my Christmas videos – in fact, I don’t know how it happened but one of my posts ended up with the wrong video in it and I had to redo it. To say it was time consuming is an understatement.

Infuriating! I’m also finding it difficult to find posts of people I follow, it doesn’t seem to discriminate any more so I’m missing loads of people by accident. I think I’ll have to spend a day trawling through to find everyone’s lovely posts that I’ve missed.

It’s funny you should mention that because I’m sure that I’m not getting everyone’s posts who I follow – I thought it was because people weren’t posting but now I don’t really seem to be getting that many.

When I go onto ‘blog I follow’ I get a load of people I don’t follow!

I don’t know what’s going on but I hope our blogs are okay as we have put too much time and effort into things going pear shaped.

Oh dear, I didn’t think of that!!

I hope it’s just a hiccough – I’ve put so much into my blogs and I know you have too – I think it will be all right – well I hope so.

I’ll ask my son he’s a bit of a techno-geek… meanwhile I might have a glass of wine to fortify myself, purely medicinal of course.

Oh, do you drink wine for medicinal purposes too? Yes, ask your son please that’s all we need before Christmas.

He’s working on the Grand Pier in Weston tonight… I will ask him in the morning.
“Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine.” There, it says so in the Bible.

Well there you go then. I think it is good for relaxing – think how bad stress is for us. Let me know what your son says. Enjoy the wine.

I’ve been experiencing the same thing and, eg, having changed my email address which is linked to ‘grumpytyke’ I still, from time to time, get notices there, but it’s not consistent. And I too find people in ‘people I follow’ that I don’t, and don’t find those that I do (if that makes sense – I’m getting WordPressitus). By the way, I turned my previous comment into a post on both my sites but gave a link back to you.

Fine! I guess we’ll get used to its funny little ways but it’s just annoying and inconvenient!

This is so very very interesting, THANKS!!! I thought it was just me, (or maybe my iPad….)
Far to long time to load and reload, the Reader doesn’t work, and the new uploader is a nightmare…. Takes me three times before my images works properly…. Hate that….
I have tried the forums, but it seems like people have different problems, so it may be themes related too, what do you think?
Thanks again for taking this up, it was a relief….. 🙂
Have a nice day!
Marie
Ps Just have to say I love WordPress otherwise, and I will not leave….

Thanks Marie – it’s always reassuring to know that others have a problem, I thought it was me being an idiot! And yes, I do love WordPress too!
