Although Uphill is a very small village, there are definitely two sides; the people who live on the east side of Old Church Road, and those who live on the western, sea side of the village. There is actually no difference in type of houses, type of people, or anything at all, it’s just a sense of there being two sides. When I go out for a wander round the village, I must often go down the sea then back past the boatyard, along by the rhyne (stream) past the Dolphin and back home.
The other day I set off past the Dolphin, and round the other side of the village. It was a lovely sunny day and I took plenty of pictures, and spotted a lot of lovely lichens en route.

I just love the name of Uphill. I lived on a tiny hill in a tiny town on the edge of the prairie, and I called it the Uphill side of flat.

Someone said it sounded as if it was a name from Middle earth… it does sound like it, doesn’t it?!

Marvellous to see some of your surroundings Lois. And that BLUE sky! I had imagined waterlogged fields and grey skies. What an interesting ‘other’ walk. Philippa
