It is Tibetan New Year, but whatever the celebrations and hopes for a happy, prosperous and positive year ahead, while the Chinese occupy Tibet there is a shadow cast over the celebrations.
I have never been to Tibet, and am never likely to, but it is a country which has been in my consciousness since I was a very small child. I believe in freedom and justice, and there is neither in Tibet; there is oppression, repression, torture and violence, masked by the Chinese version of “it’s for your own good!”
I shall think of the people of Tibet today, those living there and those in exile.
