Tayto crisps… probably the best in the world!

One of the advantages of having a daughter living in Ireland is that when she returns she brings little presents… for example, a selection of Tayto crisps. Tayto are made in Tandragee, and they are fine, fine crisp! there are ten standard flavours, all that you would expect, plus four different rough cut varieties including Bang Bang Spicy Thai. Tayto also have a range of snacks, as you would imagine, but ‘Exy Ozys Beef’… sounds more of a man thing, and Bikers Onion and Bikers Spicy, plus the fusion range of snacks, Mature Cheddar and Sweet Onion, Sweet Chilli and Red peppers, and Roast Beef.

So this is maybe what you would expect from a snack range, but they are jolly, jolly good! If you look on the side of the packet, you will see that Tayto HQ is at Tandragee Castle… and it’s

a real castle! It’s more than 500 years old, and it is the seat of the O’Hanlon clan, who had it confiscated by James I of England (James VI of Scotland) The O’Hanlon’s didn’t give up without a fight and battled against the occupiers in 1641 which resulted in the destruction of the old place. After an interesting history which you can explore on the Tayto web-site, the property was bought in the 1950’s by an enterprising business man, Thomas Hutchinson… who started making crisps!

You may be lucky enough to find Tayto crisps, we have come across a few places which sell them, but to get the full range, visit Ireland!
