Last night we were waiting for the plane from Belfast to arrive; luckily, thanks to modern technology we could keep up with the situation at snowy Aldegrove (Belfast International Airport) and we waited at home, checking on line. as we were waiting, I kept thinking of all the songs and music to do with transport… I started with ‘Planes and boats and trains…’ but then the list became longer and longer, much as the wait for the plane from Belfast.
- The Wheels On The ‘Bus
- Trains And Boats And Planes
- Combine Harvester (Brand New Key)
- Ferry ‘Cross The Mersey
- I Want To Ride My Bicycle
- Leaving on a Jet Plane – the Mitchell Trio
- Drive My Car – the Beatles
- Magic Bus – the Who
- the Monkees – Last Train to Clarksville
- Steve Miller Band – Jet Airliner
- Beach Boys – Little Deuce coupe
- Hawkwind – Silver machine
- Jasper Carrot – Funky Moped
- Cars, Gary Numan
…and not forgetting my all-time favourite ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ by Gladys Knight and the Pips!
I’m know this isn’t an exhaustive list, there are other songs I vaguely remember but can’t quite recall the artist or the lyrics, or even the melody actually! Transport will always be a great source of isnpiration, what you ride on, and what you wait for.

As your about to go travelling, I would recommend Billy Ocean’s “Get out of my dreams, and into my car” as a good start to your journey. Have a great trip.
