I am so fed up with seeing pictures, especially of women, especially of models, standing with their mouths drooped open. They don’t look sexy they just look gormless.
I have the Sunday Telegraph magazine, Stella here, and I’m just flipping through the pages…
- Cover – Lou Doillin, she might be smiling, but she just looks as if her mouth has drooped open. (She’s on page 31 again, mouth closed)
- Inside cover – model for Estée Lauder – mouth open
- page 3 – editor and Deborah Mogach smiling so that’s ok, Pippa Small looking pensive, mouth closed,
- page 5 – model, mouth open
- page 8 – model mouth shut, Debbie Harry for once looking gormless with mouth open
- page 10 – Antonia Burrell smiling and looking nice
- pages 11-12 – mouth-open models
- page 13 – mouth closed model!
- page 14 – Natascha McElhone smiling mouth closed
- page 15, 17-26 – particularly gormless, dim looking models (4 adverts for Boots with either smiling, happy models or closed mouth model)
… and so it goes on. There are people with genuine (albeit posed) smiles but there are so many gasping, slack-jawed droopy, dull looking models. I guess it is the fashion…

Lois, I will be the first to admit that much of what is fashionable -at least in magazines- confounds me.

It really confounds me too… just the way they stand is so annoying… women’s lib? What happened?
