Somerset tsunami

Some time ago I wrote about the dreadful events of 1607 when a tsunami hit the shores of Somerset and south Wales.

We were out and about in north Somerset and thought we would visit the small village of Kingston Seymour because we had never been there before. It is a pretty little place with a delightful church which was displaying some wonderful floral arrangements, based around the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the Book of Common Prayer. As we walked into the  entrance to the church we were enveloped in the smell of lilies, but my eye was  drawn to a plaque commemorating the flood of 1607, which had obviously devastated the small village.  The height of the flood was measured on the church wall as 25′ 4″ and the village was under five foot of water for ten days, many thousands of people were drowned, including I imagine, many of the villagers of Kingston Seymour
