There’s nothing as great as driving round in the summer with the windows down, sun on your arms, the music at top volume… ‘Good Vibrations’ from the always summery Beach Boys in 1966 or Mungo Jerry – does anyone remember him with ‘In The Summer Time’, 1970? Then there was Roxy Music, ‘Virginia Plain’ in 1972… And the 80’s the supposed dead time for music? Well how about Billy Joel, ‘Uptown Girl’, a-ha ‘Take On Me’, Bon Jovi, ‘Living On A Prayer’, Europe,’ The Final Countdown’ and obviously, Ultravox ‘Vienna’?
The 90’s…. well, I won’t mention all the great Mavericks hits, Dance The Night Away, O What Crying Shame, From Hell to Paradise… but what about Edwin McCain, ‘I’ll Be’ – top volume, windows down?!
Here is now my all time favourite driving song… and you’ll never guess, yes, it’s by the Mavericks! It’s from their new CD In Time:

Definitely the Beach Boys! 🙂 Sloop John B, Kokomo, and else anything I can holler off tune with a smile on my face and the wind in my hair!

I loved Sloop John B! Not only did it have the ultimate summer sound, and the Beach Boys, but it also told a story!
